A Magical Huffalump Resides Here

My name is Ed, I am a programmer. Just another dude with another blog. I like MTG, Open Source (more towards FREE software). I like sports, and eventually I hope to do business and do good for the world in general. This blog is gonna be about Magic The Gathering. Decklists and snippets will be posted here. It may lead somewhere or nowhere, as with all things arcane, that was bloody obvious =)

Furoma Run 2015

Well... this is'nt technicall a full run, since you you start at the

1. Training Grounds
2, Dojo
3. Meditation Room
4. Pinnacle Chamber

....

Actually come to think of it I think the Training Grounds is skippable. Only for getting supplies. Hmmm.

So scratch that I kinda doing a full run :)

This is my current setup:

So when should you do a Furoma run?

Some things might have changed since Furoma first came out. Catch rates for the kitty seems lower for instance (There was a time when catching Mojo was extremely easy). Also i think the returns for the epic? orbs or is it Divine orbs? Are lower these days.

Still, Furoma is the best area for gold farming last I heard. If you do not have the kitty (Sphyx Wrath) you can still attempt if you have at least a trap better or equal Rewer's Riposte. (This may or may not be correct since, like i said they adjust catch rates, my experience are all from memory... alas! I is old fart)

If not, or if you found out that traps rates have been adjusted such that only the kitty is viable, so worries! Another area that is great for farming gold (as a rough guide it is profitable for Lord rank and below) are the Trains in Varmin Valley

Anyways this is just to track my current run

my gold is currently at about 1 mil, after buying lots of orbs.... no reason, I just thought they were cheap... I probably should'nt have done that with halloween so close :p

Happy Hunting ppl!

Hmmm reading the forums, it would appear that the B-Rift and W-Rift are pretty good for gold too. Althought someone mentioned that if I wanted piles of gold but no points, Furoma is good.

Now I don't know if that means Furoma is still top dog for gold only. If so then I would still hunt here, but if not I might be better off in B-Rift or W-Rift.

I could just go to the Horntracker I guess, but I think I will stick it out and do my Furoma runs for now :p

Maybe once I hit a substantial amount of gold then I will run off to B-Rift and W-Rift to get my points up!

[20150802 11:55]

Unfortunately i am easily distracted I am now actually back on the Treasure Chest hunt!

The map had only one mouse left and it was something I was kinda positioned to catch? So I decided why not?

Will be back on to Furoma after this!

Alrighty! Back in the Dojo!

Guide to Furoma Master Hunt Tournament

This is a guide for a Furoma Master Hunt

there are the 3 player kinds and the 4 5 player kinds.

I am going to ignore the number of players and duration of the tournament.

Though those are definitely important variables. I might come back to those but for now, its just the general stuff.

I expect the scope and mice values might change, so I guess I should put it up front so we know what we are talking about =)

----------------------------------------

Scope:

Furoma
- Training Grounds
- Dojo
- Meditation Room
- Pinnacle Chamber

1 point:

Gold Mouse
Diamond Mouse

15 points:

Ninja Mouse
Kung Fu Mouse
Samurai Mouse

20 points:

Student of the Cheese Belt Mouse
Student of the Cheese Claw Mouse
Student of the Cheese Fang Mouse
Master of the Dojo Mouse (Mojo)
Dojo Sensei (Sojo)

25 points:

Master of the Cheese Belt Mouse
Master of the Cheese Claw Mouse
Master of the Cheese Fang Mouse

50 points:
Dumpling Chef Mouse
Worker Mouse

100 points:

Assassin Mouse

---------------------------------------------------------

There are definitely a few routes to take:

1) From the Beginning
2) Maki Baby
3) Master Ba... hmmm

Alrighty, what routes you take really is dependent on what cheese you have ready and your rank. If your rank is higher you probably have better traps and can hunt the stronger mice better. Your cheese will determine what you can hunt.

Its really How? What? and Where? lol so cliche huh

How : is the traps you have
What : the mice you hunt, which is determined by your cheese
Where : You can't hunt all categories of mice, sometimes due to location

Anyways the how what where logic will be applied so here we go!

(Incidentally, I suppose the duration and size of team and number of teams is the when? When do you hunt what? =P i.e. not so much time but the appropriate time, time not as a continuum but time as event triggered, situational)

1) From the Beginning

If you come in totally unprepared. This is the route you take.

If you come in as a new player with SB to burn. This is the route you take.

If you come in as a new player with no SB to burn. This is also the route you take.

If you are a new player, likely you just want to stick to the Training Grounds. SB will get you the better mice, with the occasional Dumpling and Worker. So you do get those spurts of luck, more so if you have SB+ armed.

If you are higher ranked and/or have better traps. Say that shiny 2012 Boomboxtrap, then you can proceed to hunt the students in the Dojo. if you have Maki, use maki. You can craft or buy Maki off the Marketplace.

If you are totally new and missed the boombox... I'm afraid you will have to stay in the Sandbox kid, *ahem* I mean the Training Grounds yeah.

Actually if you have the 2012, you can proceed to Meditation Room and have a go at Masters. even up to Mojo. (I think Sojo will be really painful)

Note however that if you do go beyond the Masters, and go for Mojo and above, it gets a little luck based since you will miss quite a bit.

Better to stick in the Training Grounds and eat Dumplings or Workers. I.e. you can get lucky with this route.

2) Maki Baby!

If you have loads of Maki you can try this route. It helps in your Furoma run and the points are decent.

What you give up though are the chances of getting lucky. You should get less workers, and arming Maki, probably quite a bit less.

But it is consistent and you build your Furoma runs =D !

3) Master Ba... hmmm

This is the route you take if your trap is very strong.

You hunt masters! You poo poo the students! Or maybe you are just in that phase of a Furoma run. -.-

But no matter! You Hunt masters and you hunt them consistently ! Only with more points than the Maki Babies!!

Do note: you too give up the chance of getting lucky for more consistency.

What not to do:

Hunt Mojos or Sojos - Even with a Sphynx you miss. The points do not justify going after them.

And thats it from me. There are certain difference of course of the duration is long and the number and composition of players are different

but quickly:

Long durations means, your chances of meeting that elusive Dumpling is higher!

Also if you have lower level players or unprepared players, they might be better off taking route 1, so in a long run getting lucky can help break the duck between teams. Better than sputtering trying to catch masters. This is even more important once endurance tournaments are up. Then even a team full of high level player will still consider putting one member in route 1 to ensure the amplifier!

More active players also means you can afford to put someone in route one to try to get lucky. If you are in a passive team, then you will need to focus on the higest and most consistent option.

i.e. Route 2 or 3

Of course if you are a new player, really its still route 1 unless! you have the BBT, then if you have the cheese you can try for Route 2. Route 3 will be less consistent even with BBT and RR level traps. Its pretty good still so worth a shot.

And that roughly what I have for Furoma Master Hunt Tournaments =)

Happy Hunting ppl!

Furoma Runs

Oki..

What is a Furoma run.

First, what is a run. In MH terms this usually means storing a substantial amount of cheese and then hunting with that stock of cheese for a long period.

Runs could be broken by the way, for instance my current Gauntlet run will likely be broken by the Great Winter Hunt 2011.

Why do people go on runs? Well, usually its because its a goal of some sort. On a more logical basis, given that mousehunt's behaviour should in the long run be statistically consistent (hopefully). A long run will smooth out the hunts, the bad and good patches so to speak.

Though there are also short runs. Most people do Gauntlet, the short way. This means you pack some amount of cheese, usually the minimal that will get you to the end stage big bad, in this case (for the Gauntlet); the Eclispe mouse. Normally people do this, to simply do it and get it over with =P

Alright alright, so you know what a run is.

But what is a Furoma run? I'll keep it short as I am no expert on it. There are definitely more expert views elsewhere.

1) It all begins with Maki

Get a stock of Maki, preferably at least 100pcs (Note as of the time written it is still profitable to get SB from the mkt place at 6000 - I won't do the funky calculations here, you can get them at the forums)

2) Catch students and collect tokens

You can skip the Training Grounds if this is not your first time. Training Grounds is where the shops are, but the mice do not really drop any important loot for progression.

Actually I do rememeber distinctively sitting in Training Grounds for quite sometime. Likely I did not fulfil some requirement =P

Once you enter the Dojo you want to catch students!!

Now strictly speaking you do not need Maki, in the past (so it may not be true now) Brie with a high attraction actually does pretty well, but I think it got nerfed.

So students, you arm your best tactical and go to town (Note to seriously do Furoma Runs you need a good trap, RR or better, Wrath is the current bestest)

After which you need to try to rebalance your tokens. You can do that with King Credits if you have them, if not its more hunting till you are satisfied.

3) Craft Cheese of the Masters

Now you need to catch the Masters of the Fang, Claw and Belt

You need to craft Glutter from Belt tokens
You need to craft Susheese from Claw tokens
You need to craft Combat from Fang tokens

Master of the Cheese Belt drops Master Belt Shards
Master of the Cheese Claw drops Master Claw Shards
Master of the Cheese Fang drops Master Fang Shards

These can be used to craft Rumble Cheese!

4) Get Your Mojo

get Mojos get as many as you can.

Mojos good.
Mojos drop Onyx stones!

5) Craft Unstable Curds

Do not craft the Onyx Gorgonzola (also known as OMG Onyx (Marbled) Gorgonzola)

I suspect it was originally with the Marbled but got changed *shrug*

Craft the Unstable Curds and happy poking.

It should not matter how you poke =) I think. i don't think there was ever a study done =/

6) Go for Sojo

Sojo eats OMG cheese.
Sojo also drops Onyx Stone

Notice that the Rumbles and OMG cheese regenerate themselves through Onyx stone droppings, albeit in a not entirely deterministic way. But in general it is self sustaining (tho no guarantee).

(Note: The important thing is to always craft the Unstable Curd, and not the OMG Cheese, from Onyx Stones)

This cyclical effect is the basis of what is known as a Furoma Run.

Now the specifics, where is the gold? Its is between the Mojos and Sojos. I am not sure which yields more, but both add to the cycle because they both generate onyx stones.

It used to be more profitable, in the past much of the gold was generated from the high price of Divine orbs (about 50K g). But ever since the rise of utility of the simple orb, this revenue stream has dwindled to just 3500 +- gold per orb.

But apparently it is STILL profitable! So get hunting ppl! =D

--------------------------------------------------------------------

So this is like almost FOUR years after writing a post on how to do a Furoma run. Nothing has really changed I think. The catch rates have fallen and the gold is a little less good, but I think it is still the best place to get gold, assuming no Easter Egg event is on.

My current run is here.
