New Pokemon go gym updates evaluation

First off i guess i should profile myself a  bit so you know where i am coming from.

I am valor in a mystic infested area. Yes infested. It is meant to be negative because thats the feeling the current gyms evoke. Replace with which ever colour you are currently a minority team in.

In the old system i get about 10-20 gold daily, so i am not hard core into coin collection or anything. I take down level 10 blissey infested towers weekly (other days i look for easier targets :p) and even that is preferable to the current system.

The current system favours whomever is resident near the gym. I mean like literally. Since now you do not collect your gold one time and be done but are instead gettiing reward based on the amount of time defended, then means tbere is a 24/7 interest in attacking an opposing gym. As opposed to previously once you collected you are no longer incentivised to attack.

The immediate 6 slots are both empowerig as well as toxic. It enciurages the casuals who previously have tp prestiege to literally fight for a slot. Essentially there is no cost to entering a gym once it is won by someone else. How is this relevant? Again it encourages a winning by numbers system, when you are a minority team you are severely disadvantaged. Its almost bullying really. I look ard me, yellow and red time get a gym and lose it in 10 to 20 mins. Simply due to numbers. Previously whe you had to pretiege and with the time out yku see all teams having a chance to take gyms and get rewarded. Now its really just who has the larger numbers based on who lives there. I have given up, at first i have adjusted my thinking, i could just feed ant pokemon in gyms to get candy. So no gold, but at least theres candy. But today they have disabled that as well. You can no longer feed other teams pokemon. That is sad. That mean a a minority team i have ZERO incentive. I am just a reset button for the majority team. This is a stupid update. Raids are cool tho, i have already got my fast and charge tm so thats cool .

The last question is most important since its free text :) below is what I wrote:

"I like old style magic, fast mana, discard, counters,efficient LD, wrath of god style cards, armegeddon etc etc. I like the up tick in creature power. I think it is matching up to the old cards. But thats the problem, you nerfed the old cards. So now the imbalance is from creatures rather than from stack based or prison or LD cards. I would like a return to make stack based interaction important. An also I would like for you to stop talking about interaction like it makes any sense. 1) The game is to end your opponent's interaction. That is inevitable. Saying decks like combo and LD are non interactive is disingenuous, they are interactive it is just that they and the pokemon players are interacting on different axis ~ hence it is a lie that such decks are non-interactive. If there is a situation that one deck is non-interactive in a duel, it is because both decks are guilty of it. Why did the mid-range pokemon deck not play more stack based effects that can deal with counters, or mitigate discard or LD or play cards that can break the prison locks. All those interactive ways of playing you have removed from magic slowly over the last decade (that I have just mentioned), bring them back. And you would make magic awesome again. Again, its not that powerful creatures are not good, its just that you made everything else suck for the longest time. I am planning to write my thoughts  in a more concrete way on what I think is wrong with magic on my blog, search for huffalump magic. I have'nt written it yet, but you can watch out for it if you wish :) I love magic and I want it to succeed, but it is getting exceedingly expensive paying for stuff that loses almost all its value in 1 year. This is becoming more so in recent years. And no, weakening the environment further (aka frontier format) is not going to help, thats just kicking the can down the road and it may not even work."

Modern and its Current and Future State: Just my take ;)




Hate to tell you so. But I told you so.


Right off the bat, I figured Modern is the format of flux.

I got clearer and clearer over the years, but still many tried to make sense of WOTC's decisions.

They tried to frame it such that there was a method to the madness.

Actually there was.

Right of the bat.


It was to make Modern the format of flux.


Via the banlist.

Many views have been put up, and all point to the same thing:

for instance bans lead to more bans. One example given recently on Sally was bans lead to more bans.

Twin, then Eldrazi, then now probe.

With each ban, another strategy rose.


I thought it was obvious, but apparently it isn't.


This is normal.

In any ecosystem, you kill one species, the system rebalances.


Any system will rebalance to an equilibirum. Be it a biological ecosystem, global warming or a Modern meta :P


Its really just whether we are happy with the equilibirum state.


Now funnily enough, this equilibrium is exactly what WOTC's decisions are to combat (or at least to hasten it or artificially induce it)

But I think it is as much the players' fault as much as it is WOTC's fault that we have what we have today

(not that I am complaining, I accept whatever is on the plate, hell, I loved Eldrazi Winter!)


For instance, the recent so called Standard debacle of dominant decks.

People.


its only three weeks.


Week one the boogey man was Saheeli decks

Week two was Mardu

Week three was BG decks


... I actually consider that healthy already as decks are taking turns at the top. But many would say it is unhealthy that for each
 given week one deck is so dominant (I actually think that quite alright)

BUT. I would like to point out that anyone who says Week three is not diverse is being just a little misleading.


It looks like 3 decks.

But it is really:

Mardu
Saheeli Cat (I think, I am just writing off memory)
BG Energy
BG delirium
BG Constrictor


I can't offhand remember the difference between the last two, but if you bother to look at the decklist you will
notice the builds are quite different.

And a 4 colour Saheeli deck was 9th.



That is actually more varied that it looked!

I especially have a soft spot for the energy deck, week two it was Jund, but I guess it was better without the red?
Oh look Jund is BGR.

Dropping R turned it into a BG deck ... that apparently detractors don't bother to relise is quite different from other BG decks ;/

I think the problem is the same as during Eldrazi Winter. People are just netdecking and refuse to innovate. I am referring to the detractors.

Obviously if you do not just look at the top 8 decks, many decks are still finding their feet and getting an optimal list.

Thank God for the people that still try.



Hmmm I just realised I started with Modern but ended up trying to defend Standard's meta lol


But I think I should be clear that Kaladesh and Aether Revolt has been a breath of fresh air and there is just so much potential to brew,
so I really like it alot.

I feel I needed to say this as so many people seem to whine about current standard.
